"JUST INK (CHAPTER ONE)" - EAST END STUDIO GALLERY
Friday the 13th was a very busy day for exhibitions in the Houston area. East End Studio Gallery opened its doors to the public with "Just Ink", a exhibit showcasing a wide range of art pieces all done in various ink and pen formats.
All of my favorites were there. And I also came across some new artist that I became very found of.
Artists participating included: Patricia Corron, Blue 130, April Murphy, Robin Baker, Christian Navarrete, Lizbeth Ortiz, Julia Salazar, LOWBROW Pilgrim, Julie Zarate, and many more.
BTW...whats a TamaRita?
"THE LITTLE BIG SHOW" - WAR'HOUS VISUAL STUDIOS
War'Hous visual studios hosted it "Little Big Show" this past Friday. This show is an answer to the dozens of rejected entries to Lawndales' annual "Big Show". In usual War'Hous form, the gallery was filled to the brim.
Patrons were able to walk freely between Lawndale and War'hous to view works from pretty much all the artist who wanted to participate and then some. Good idea on the part curator/owner Dandee Warhol.
Hundreds of entries are taken each year and only a small percentage are selected, the rest are rejected. The Little Big Show came about by hosting those rejected artwork from The Big Show. Curated by Dandee Warhol at War'Hous Visual Studios, they have taken all the rejected artwork until the space filled up and compiled 60 artists for the show. War'Hous is only a block away from Lawndale Art Center, so all patrons can view both shows at the same night!
"THE BIG SHOW 2012" - LAWNDALE ART CENTER
Lawndale Art Center held its opening reception for the annual "Big Show" this past weekend. As usual, the gallery was filled with artwork from artist around the city.
It was a pleasure to find a piece of work from my friend Patrick Renner. Of all the pieces in the gallery, I was drawn to this one before I realized that it belonged to Patrick.
"The Big Show is Lawndale Art Center’s annual open-call, juried exhibition. It has been an important venue through which emerging and under-represented Houston area artists gain exposure since the show’s conception in 1984. The Big Show was formerly the East End Show, sponsored by the East End Progress Association, at Lawndale’s original location.
Each year Lawndale Art Center invites a guest juror to select from work submitted by artists living within 100 miles of Houston. Artists are invited to bring up to three works of art, not previously shown in Houston, to Lawndale Art Center where the work is juried on-site for a chance to be included in the show and a shot at one of three cash prizes."
The show runs to August 11st. Winners will be announced then, lets all hope Patrick gets some love. Last years winner was Matt Messinger
