MUSEUM VISIT - OKCMOA

i have visited Oklahoma dozens of times over the last 7 years and this was my first chance to take in the sights at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art.

when i pulled up, i thought i was at the wrong place. the museum district here is a stark contrast to what i grew up around off montrose. but, once i was inside, it was everything in the museum district rolled into one. an art museum with a theatre, cafe, and art classes all under one roof.

to be honest, it was a lot more than i expected. the building was building was beautiful and they had a wonderful collection which included a few Renoirs and O'Keffe. They also house a spectacular collection of Dale Chihuly glass work.

if you are ever in OKC, i suggest you take the time and visit.

ARTIST OF THE DAY - MARTIN PURYEAR

Martin Puryear is what you would call a minimalist sculptor. his work consist of simple forms and shapes, but its the scale and craftmanship that makes his work epic. Puryear’s objects and public installations — in wood, stone, tar, wire, and various metals—are a marriage of Minimalist logic with traditional ways of making.he is hands down one of my favorite african american artist.

ANNUAL INVITATIONAL ART SHOW at WAR'HOUS GALLERY

one of my long term goals that i hope to achieve, is to open an art gallery. the War'hous gallery on 4715 Main, currently holds a perfect example of an exhibit that i would love to have in my gallery one day.

the montrose art society is comprised of ten young artist from diverse backgrounds. somehow, their work melds together cohesively to make an sensational exhibit.

i was invited to the show by Raul Gonzalez, one of the artist feature at the show saturday. by time i had gotten there, Raul was busy, already selling a few of his pieces.

i came an hour late and the crowd was still thick. and the tunes from Dj Saba kept the people moving.

there was so much good work there, that i honestly could not pick a favorite. congratulations to all the artist who had work there. if you have time, please check out this great show and the artist involved.

ARTIST OF THE DAY - TIM HAWKINSON

Tim is one of the few true artist that i have seen who is proficient in ANY medium. his work reminds me more of that of a mad scientist. the is a lot of mechanics and automation integrated in his work. The source of inspiration for many of Hawkinson’s pieces has been the re-imagining of his own body and what it means to make a self-portrait of this new or fictionalized body.

ARTILLI

i came across this image and fell in love

ARTIST OF THE DAY - MIKE DE LANGE

Mike has a a strong preference for the more "real", rustic and gritty nature of interesting people, things and places around us. He loves capturing and freezing a moment in someone's daily life, a moment that will probably never be repeated again in exactly the same way. Originally from South Africa, he resides is Dubai, as a practicing architect since early 2002.
